Why do we need mother care?
Major life events and times of transition are moments where there is immense opportunity for growth and transformation if our needs are tended to sensitively by community.
The postpartum phase of birth is one of these opportunities.
During this sacred window a mother's nervous system is like a flower; delicate yet with such potential to blossom if watered and tended to with loving devotion.
The role of a postpartum doula is to ensure the necessary care takes place so that the mother can focus on healing her body, nurturing and connecting with her baby.
Ayurveda considers the six weeks following birth to be a critical time for mother and baby, forming a foundation for many years of strength, health and vitality.
Without health, there is nothing else.

Specialised care for mothers and families welcoming a new baby into the world. During this tender time of transition, bodywork, nourishing meals & herbal care, rituals and traditional ceremonies are offered using the ancient principles of Ayurvedic medicine to support a new mother replenish and rebuild after birth to be vital for the next 42 years of life.

All mothers deserve and need care after birth. That care can come from family members (in traditional cultures this would always be the case when a mother in the community or village would birth), or a hired doula as is more common in our western setting. It can be for mothers at any stage of postpartum, but particularly it is essential to receive during the first 42 days where she is extra vulnerable and in need of replenishment. Postpartum care principles can similarly be provided to anyone experiencing a major life transition such as an early birth, a grief journey, recovery from trauma or illness.
-
Postpartum care is essential for the replenishment and rebuilding of vital life force after pregnancy and birth where a mother becomes naturally depleted. The appropriate care and nourishment will not only support her in regaining her strength after birth, it will prevent postpartum depression and symptoms of disease that may arise in later years of life, support breastmilk production, support the emotional journey of early motherhood, and help the whole family system integrate the birth experience together and move into this new chapter of life with a co-regulated nervous system.

As soon as possible. The earlier you are able to start planning for your postpartum, the smoother it will be so you can simply focus on healing and connecting with your baby. I recommend we begin working together from 30 weeks of your pregnancy so we can maximise the experience of care when that time comes

It is never too late. Although it may look different, the basic principles still apply. Bodywork treatments or rituals can be supportive at later stages of postpartum especially when a mother did not receive the appropriate care during early days, or had a traumatic birth that she was not able to properly process at the time and the space has arisen later for her to be honoured.

Not at all. Ayurvedic food is not strictly vegetarian. Ayurveda focuses on restoring balance by using foods with qualities that support the mother’s needs during postpartum, while also considering the season, climate and individual constitution.
Traditional Ayurvedic texts advise eating foods you are accustomed to. Alongside Ayurvedic principles for digestion and nourishment, meals may include foods from your cultural and ancestral background, ensuring you feel both physically and spiritually nourished.
