Mother Care

  • Specialised care for mothers and families welcoming a new baby into the world. During this tender time of transition, bodywork, nourishing meals & herbal care, rituals and traditional ceremonies are offered using the ancient principles of Ayurvedic medicine to support a new mother replenish and rebuild after birth to be vital for the next 42 years of life.

  • All mothers deserve and need care after birth. That care can come from family members (in traditional cultures this would always be the case when a mother in the community or village would birth), or a hired doula as is more common in our western setting. It can be for mothers at any stage of postpartum, but particularly it is essential to receive during the first 42 days where she is extra vulnerable and in need of replenishment. Postpartum care principles can similarly be provided to anyone experiencing a major life transition such as an early birth, a grief journey, recovery from trauma or illness.

  • Postpartum care is essential for the replenishment and rebuilding of vital life force after pregnancy and birth where a mother becomes naturally depleted. The appropriate care and nourishment will not only support her in regaining her strength after birth, it will prevent postpartum depression and symptoms of disease that may arise in later years of life, support breastmilk production, support the emotional journey of early motherhood, and help the whole family system integrate the birth experience together and move into this new chapter of life with a co-regulated nervous system.

  • As soon as possible. The earlier you are able to start planning for your postpartum, the smoother it will be so you can simply focus on healing and connecting with your baby. I recommend we begin working together from 30 weeks of your pregnancy so we can maximise the experience of care when that time comes

  • It is never too late. Although it may look different, the basic principles still apply. Bodywork treatments or rituals can be supportive at later stages of postpartum especially when a mother did not receive the appropriate care during early days, or had a traumatic birth that she was not able to properly process at the time and the space has arisen later for her to be honoured.

  • Not at all. Ayurvedic food is not strictly vegetarian. Ayurveda focuses on restoring balance by using foods with qualities that support the mother’s needs during postpartum, while also considering the season, climate and individual constitution.

Traditional Ayurvedic texts advise eating foods you are accustomed to. Alongside Ayurvedic principles for digestion and nourishment, meals may include foods from your cultural and ancestral background, ensuring you feel both physically and spiritually nourished.

Ayurvedic Therapies

  • Ayurveda is a traditional system of medicine originating in India over 5,000 years ago. It works on the principle that health is created through balance — supporting the body, mind, and nervous system to return to an interconnected whole. Through the use of herbal oils, bodywork, and lifestyle practices, Ayurveda helps to regulate the body’s systems, improve digestion, calm the nervous system, and restore vitality.

  • Absolutely everyone. Ayurveda is an age old system that is based on the recognition of the interplay between ourselves and nature. It works to bring balance back to the body, mind and spirit by assessing lifestyle and environmental factors that have led to imbalance. Uniquely formulated medicated oils are prescribed for treatments that open the channels and support the doshas or imbalances to return to a state of equilibrium, which is usually not as far off as we think.

  • Abhyanga is a rejuvenating full body massage incorporating unique medicated oils designed to help activate & heal every cell in your body. This relaxing treatment offers a space for the mind to settle and the body to regenerate, restoring balance across the nervous, digestive, and musculoskeletal systems.

  • Basti is a specialised Ayurvedic treatment where warm herbal oil is retained within a targeted area of the body, such as the lower back or abdomen. This therapy delivers concentrated nourishment to the seven tissues or dhatus, helping to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and restore function.

  • Ayurveda treatments are offered in-home for mothers during postpartum. Otherwise sessions are offered on Fridays at Ashtanga Yoga Belaku in Noosa. If you require an in-home treatment or wish to explore Ayurveda postpartum care services, please contact me at hello@sanna-coudoux.com.au.
